Ted Lewis

Ted holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas Wesleyan University; a Master of Science in Political Science from the University of North Texas; and a Doctorate of Education, with distinction, in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Ted serves as Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Bluefield State College where he has twice been recognized as “Administrator of the Year.” Previously, he was the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer at Pellissippi State Community College. Under his academic leadership, colleges have developed more than 50 new academic and career technical programs, concentrations, and certificates as well as received national recognition for instructional programs and student success initiatives by the American Association of Community Colleges, the Institute of International Education, the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges, National Council of Instructional Administrators, and the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

A multiple award-winning teacher with over 30 years of experience at the college level, Ted has taught honors courses, service-learning courses, learning communities, and other courses incorporating high-impact practices of student learning. He has been inducted into Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Ted was the founding dean of instruction at Lone Star College-CyFair. Previously, Ted served as department chairperson at Collin College and director of its national Bellwether Award-winning learning communities’ program. He has conducted workshops and delivered presentations on community partnerships, curriculum development, workforce education, engaged scholarship, and active learning strategies for the American Association of Community Colleges, the American Association of Colleges and Universities, the American Association for Higher Education, the Community College of Qatar, the League for Innovation in the Community College, the National Council of Instructional Administrators, the National Council for Workforce Education, The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, and other international educational organizations. An award-winning author, Ted has also written about higher education and published research in such periodicals as the Community College Daily, Community College Journal of Research and Practice, the Journal of the League for Innovation in the Community College, and the National Social Science Journal. Ted has mentored more than 200 student scholarship recipients, and has had multiple endowed scholarships established in his honor by Collin College, Cypress-Fairbanks Educational Foundation, and Lone Star College.

Ted has served on several educational boards and foundations and is past board chair of the National Alliance of Community and Technical Colleges. Active in his community, he is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and club president. Ted has served on a technology center’s advisory board, county educators’ roundtables, workforce development advisory committees, advanced manufacturers advisory committees, and on the board and executive committee of a K-12 educational foundation. Ted was also appointed by the governor to serve on the board of the Tennessee Technology Corridor Development Authority. Additionally, he has served as president of a historic home’s board of directors and chaired several chambers of commerce committees. For his leadership in the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce, he was named the first recipient of their Shooting Star Award. He is currently on the Alliance for the Economic Development of Southern West Virginia and Chair of the Applied Research Foundation of West Virginia.

Ted and his wife, Katherine, live in Bluefield, West Virginia, with their two young sons: Theodore and Theron.
